Live Project - Designing Rugs - part one

For live project I had to design for interiors and part one was rugs.
I had a brief with a choice of inspiration.. I chose 'Odyssey'

Odyssey colour palette...

I then went on to look at inspirational images and research for my 'Odyssey' themed rug collection

I wanted to create something new and unusal with this amazing photo inspiration, I began to collage designs into my sketch book and really liked the effect it gave me. I began covering my designs with cling film so that when I scanned my designs it added an even more unusual look with the reflections it gave off.

Some collaged work..

I began adding lines of thick and thin block colour lines to break up my designs and add a rug look to my designs.

Some final designs...

Precious project

For this project I had to work from the word 'precious' and find inspiration from a fashion area that to me was 'precious'. When I think of the word precious, bridal comes to mind as it's precious and seen as a one off experience to a bride. I went on to look at unusual and unique wedding dresses, the style of gowns and the techniques used.

I liked the dresses that had laser cut and embroidery on them and decided I would like to try these techniques out myself and see how they would work if I was to use them on my own designs.

These are some of my own embroidery, I first tried it on calico and then moved on to dissolvable fabric as I wanted to create a lace effect.

These are pictures from when I was sampling lazer cut designs for my second year final garment.

- Making my second year final garment...
I began by outlining with tape around the mannequin so I had a kind of template to follow for my dress. I then traced my template using calico.

I had to make lots of adjustments and tweaks to pull in my dress as I wanted it to be very fitted!
Here are more images from my pattern cutting process...

I didn't take too many pictures of making the actual final dress put here are a few...

I had to ruche the bottom fabric to create the ruffled, puffed up effect I wanted.

putting the Dress together..

This lazer cut design was around the bottom of the black section of the dress.
